Green your Fridge

Did you know that about 14% of typical household’s energy is used by the fridge? Whoa! It makes sense to lighten up your need for energy and its impact on the environment while decreasing toxic chemicals.

So that is what I spent the weekend doing and it feels and looks great!

Choose Glass

Glass keeps beverages colder, meaning less work for your fridge. You can see through the glass and so you can see though to our left overs before they go off. Glass doesn’t leach chemicals like plastic does, so it’s cleaner for or bodies, our home and our planet. I picked up some really inexpensive ones that look like the “mason jars” for $3 each at a bargain store but Ikea had some lovely ones there when I last visited.

Keep a Full Orderly fridge

  • A full fridge requires less than an empty one. Create a system of organization so that you are not spending time with the fridge door open looking for things. Fill it with fresh fruit & veggies, some yummy (raw) snacks so that “junky” temptations are eliminated. Besides this it is a Feng Shui principle to keep the energy of abundance in our pantry and this will flow throughout our life .
  • Pay attention to use by dates – of course if you fridge is stocked with fresh produce- there will only be a few labels to check. Left overs really last 3-4 days at the most.
  • Avoid strange growths by wiping bacteria straight away. Baking soda and vinegar work a treat
  • Skip the ice and water dispensers- these increase our output by a whopping 6%. Besides, water is best consumed at body temperature.

Now onto my pantry!
